TWO - PART QUESTION - BÀI 1: TECHNOLOGY

TASK 2: You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Nowadays the way many people interact with each other has changed because of technology.
In what ways has technology affected the types of relationships that people make? Has this been a positive or negative development?

It is true that new technologies have had an influence on communication between people. Technology has affected relationships in various ways ( đã ảnh hưởng tới những mối quan hệ theo nhiều cách khác nhau), and in my opinion there are both positive and negative effects.

Technology has had an impact on relationships in business, education and social life . Firstly, telephones and the Internet allow business people in different countries ( cho phép người làm kinh doanh ở những nước khác nhau) to interact without ever meeting each other ( tương tác mà không cần gặp) . Secondly, services like Skype create new possibilities for ( tạo ra những khả năng mới cho) relationships between students and teachers. For example, a student can now take video lessons with a teacher in a different city or country. Finally, many people use social networks ( mạng xã hội), like Facebook, to make new friends and find people who share common interests ( tìm những người có chung sở thích), and they interact through their computers rather than face to face ( tương tác qua máy tính thay vì gặp trực tiếp).

On the one hand, these developments can be extremely positive ( mang tính tích cực cao ). Cooperation between people in different countries ( sự hợp tác giữa những người ở những quốc gia khác nhau)  was much more difficult when communication was limited to written letters or telegrams ( giao tiếp bị giới hạn ở những lá thư viết tay hoặc văn bản điện tín). Nowadays, interactions by email, phone or video are almost as good as face-to-face meetings ( cũng tốt gần giống như các cuộc gặp trực tiếp), and many of us benefit from these interactions, either in work or social contexts ( cả trong bối cảnh công việc hay ngoài xã hội). On the other hand, the availability of new communication technologies can also have the result of ( dẫn tới việc) isolating people and discouraging real interaction (cô lập con người và làm thui chột những tương tác thực tế). For example, many young people choose to make friends online rather than mixing with their peers in the real world (thay vì giao tiếp với bạn đồng trang lứa trong thế giới thực), and these ‘virtual’ relationships are a poor substitute for real friendships ( một sự thay thế tồi cho một tình bạn trong thực tế).

In conclusion, technology has certainly revolutionised communication between people ( đã cách mạng hóa sự giao tiếp giữa mọi người), but not all of the outcomes of this revolution ( không phải tất cả kết quả của cuộc cách mạng này) have been positive.
